Yarn Along

I’ll start with books because I didn’t get any pictures with them.  And I started a new one.  Because I finally finished Life of Pi.  It was interesting.  I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with a weak stomach or in the first trimester – it’s rather graphic.  So now, for a change of pace, I started a Sherlock Holmes tale, Scandal in Bohemia

As to my knitting, Karen called it.  I finished the shawl last night.  Thanks for egging me on encouraging me to get it finished.  🙂  I did really like the pattern – nice and simple.  And I did figure out how I dropped those stitches.  I very nearly did it again!  But caught myself this time so crisis averted.  I did find the bind off ridiculously tedious, though.  It took me over three hours to finish!  Granted, I am highly distractable and maybe if I’d been able to focus it would have gone more quickly.  It’s hard to focus when it’s one thing after another – I was hungry, I was thirsty, my back hurt, my butt hurt, I had to go to the bathroom, I was hungry again, I had to yell at the TV “you can’t leave me hanging like that for four months!” I had to pee again, I was thirsty again…  It was the season finales of NCIS and NCIS:LA 😉  Luckily (?) the LA one was 2 hours.  Luckily since I was gonna be up working anyway.  And just after 11 this is what happened…

The bind off also required a copious amount of yarn!  And as you can see I didn’t realize it would.  Thankfully I have one more ball of the same yarn but what a pain.  Part of me wishes I’d just joined the other yarn and added a few more rows of the lace (which I’d thought about doing) but I wanted to be done and didn’t want to mess around.  Oh well, hind sight and all.  And being after 11 at night I didn’t mess around with finding the proper spot in the color to join but I don’t think it’s all that noticeable.  Time (and blocking) will tell.

Now it just needs blocking and shipping off 🙂  I’ll try to post some pictures before I send it.
But first off to link up with Ginny

It is just beautiful. She is going to love it. How very special for you to do that. Congratulations on finishing it and especially on picking up the dropped stitches. I would have probably bagged the project at that point!

Your are so funny Kate, thanks for the laugh this morning.
My heart nearly stopped when I saw your first photo, but am so glad you were able to finish. The shawl is lovely.

Oh, that's lovely! I missed most of the knitting of it – things have been so crazy here, I've not been keeping up with my blog-reading. Glad to be catching up in time to see the beautiful result! xo

  5. Beautiful! Great knitting!

Beautiful shawl! I love the colors. My great grandmother used to say that little things like the perfect color join will “never be seen from a galloping horse” and that was sort of her gold standard for nitpicky perfection — if you wouldn't see it from a galloping horse, then why bother, I guess?!?

    Awesome job!!! You rocked it!
